Hi all,just a newbie question. I thought all rivers and creeks were crown land,therefore I would be able to prospect in them When I check them on MRT map most of them are under a mining lease. Struggling to find places to prospect

Hi Mick welcome to the forum
I think you will find most are under an exploration license which is different to a mining lease
Mining leases are definitely out of bounds unless you have permission from the lease holder
Exploration licenses are large areas that mining companies have paid to have under their control to explore the possibility of mining
The rules state that we as prospectors need to ask permission to enter these areas to prospect
The problem is that 99 percent of the time you will go to the effort of sending emails and making calls without any response from the companies involved
It is up to the individual what they do if they can’t make contact or get ignored but legally that’s how it works
