While having a look through gumtree this morning I came across this ad for a minelab GPX 5000. On inspection it appears to have been modified with the shaft from a brush cutter which would generally be lightweight steel or aluminium tubing. Seems strange to have a metal shaft so close to the coil even though it appears not to be physically touching and connected by plastic or nylon. I would have thought set up like this the machine would nearly be unusable. Maybe it still works with very low sensitivity, I just found it strange someone would do this to their machine. Don’t think I’ll rush out and do the same thing.

I would be very suspicious that this mighe be a fake.

Yeah I’d say it’s a strong possibility. The ads down now, hopefully no one bought it.
