Hi. Im new to prospecting and just been given a metal detector minilab 1000 .
I grew up in the Northeast as a kid at Nabowla in the 70s and 80s and remember the last house standing on Bessels straight . Ive panned in tobaco cr and lisle will be the first place i will try my detector .. any help would be appreciated .
Ive also logged in lisle valley taking the first rotation of pine in the early 80s .

Hi V,
I don’t own a 1000, but my understanding is that they are very sensitive to small gold which is great, however they they won’t go very deep ie: 1-3” max.
So suggestions could be to target mullock heaps for small bits the old timers missed or try shallow ground on/near bedrock and in creeks.
Lefroy, Tobacco Ck can give up small nuggets and speccies (gold on quartz or ironstone), Lisle is generally known for fine gold, so more considered a panning/sluicing area.
There are some active alluvial leases at Lisle, so please be aware of them and don’t trespass.
Happy hunting!

Hi AG . My minelab 1000 has a shallow and deep setting and says its good to 1 metre . Ive watched some utube videos on there use.
With all the plantationsand soil being disturbed it the lisle / tobbaco creek / Golconda Area would it make it better or worse for a detector ?
Has anyone been down furnney hill rd and the Dennison river . Maybe 30 years ago i worked with a guy who found a small glass jar with gold in it while looking for old bottles where they mined.
Not sure of the actual location .

It might pick up your car from a 1m distance but even that’s pushing it don’t believe what you see on YouTube
They are a good machine and will find gold if you stick with it I’ve had mine for about 6 years works best on quartz shallow ground and bedrock good for about 3”

Ive given the 1000 a run today . In down 8 inches through the clay and have come into some quartz sediment . Could be old as theres been a bit of digging and it could be overburden flattened out . I didnt have a big enought tool . . Next time

I’ve found one little bit of gold in the creek below the old Denison town site, but it’s very thick and snakey in there.
The recently logged areas around Lisle are pretty hard to detect as they seem to be mulching all the pine branches into the soil and it’s difficult to even walk through.

Im unaware if any gold was found up where they have recently logged above the picnic ground . I do know there was a tunnel about half way to the township above the plantation when i last logged down there in about 2001 - 03 .
How do i find out about obtaining permission to use my detector on land that has a lease on it .
Im thinking of trying up at Mathinna , long gully , black horse cr area .
My brother lives in the town and knows the area well

Hi valmetf4
There is a fair difference between a mining lease and an exploration license
Mining lease is a definite no go unless you have permission from the holder
Exploration licenses are really large areas the mining company’s have under their name and rarely do much within them for the most part
If you use the website list map and find the mining maps it will tell you where the leases and exploration licenses are and who has them
From there you can attempt to contact them for permission
Personally I have had no luck in contacting any exploration license holders
Most people take the non reply as that they have permission go anyway
As long as you do the right thing and adhere to the conditions of your prospecting license you should be ok on an exploration license but keep clear of the active mining leases
Cheers

What does pink tape with a few number found in an abandon adit . Looked to be put then maybe last 3 or 4 years

Hi,
The numbered tape would be a sample point from an exploration company.
Probably a geologist investigating the old workings
Cheers
