Our next field trip will be to Reece Dam, on the Pieman River, to check out some of the recently burnt areas on the west coast, on Saturday the 26th of April 2025.
Reece Dam is on the Pieman Road approximately 4 km east of Heemskirk Road, or 40 km west of the Murchison Hwy. The camping area is near the boat ramp, a little further along the road east of the dam.
I’ve been getting conflicting information about whether the camping area is shut. The Hydro page says that the road and the camping area are both shut, but I haven’t been able to get a clear answer from them, as the road has now been open for a while. I will check with Hydro closer to the date and update here if there are any issues.
Hi , Im new to the site, thinking of coming down for the day for the trip, I thought I saw a list of things to bring, but I cant locate it now so maybe I dreamed it…I am a beginner looking for tips, I have a gold monster that I havnt really used yet , except for in a kids sand pit, have my pans, rock sieves, and ive joined this site. Is there a membership that needs to be paid? Im really glad that this group gets together so newbies can learn.
My plan is to look around for osmiridium so I’ll be taking panning and metal-detecting gear.
Some waders or wetsuit pants to stand in the creek, post-hole shovel, panning dish, crevicing tool if you have one, snuff bottles or a small bucket for concentrate, plastic scoop, finds pouch or bottle.
