Hi all,
I noticed this tiny specimen while cleaning up some gold after a panning trip today. I’m wondering if it’s osmiridium with the gold as I was getting a few specs of ossie in most of my pans. Does anyone know if it’s common to find it like this? Would be good to find a bigger bit this piece is so small it doesn’t even register on the scales.
If found on the west coast there as been some rare specimens of gold and platinum and that is probably i good size piece
I agree, that’s what it most likely is. I’ve seen a few reports of them, but never one in real life.
Cheers guys, that’s interesting to know.
I found one where the track crosses McGinty Creek. Gold and Ozzie on the same piece. Very small. I’ll have a look and see if I can find it.
The parents of a very good friend had their 70th wedding anniversary.
I put it in a brooch with some other ozzie tiny nuggets.
70th is a Platinum anniversary, and a mighty rare event.
Must be getting oldtimer’s to forget what I did with it.
My wife remembers, of course.
Great find! Having ossie and gold on the same piece is terrific.
The only other possibility I can think of is gold plus amalgam (Hg & Au).
If ossie, it should be hard to scratch
