Had a top day out on Tuesday finding a cricket buckle , some cool coins including a 4d [Groat] , 1827 large halfpenny plus other relics .
Yes an interesting - I always wondered what a “Groat” was!
Another great hunt with a classic buckle and 2 1879 threepence’s as well as the 1854 four pence?
I didn’t know what a groat was so thanks for this post.
A groat is on my “to find” list! (Mind you, the list keeps growing)
Well done, good finds!
Thanks , i have been very lucky finding 4 in 8 years of detecting . So at an average of one every two years there is an awful lot of coins between each one !
Not Tuesday anymore but had an interesting little find last week at Lefroy on a well flogged hut site . Never thought i would find an Indian head penny { one cent } in Tassie . On U.S. forums people are happy to find one so i count myself very lucky . One of those iffy signals under a tree root that firmed up with a bit of digging , munted 1903 , but beggars cannot be choosers !
Interesting find. We didn’t have our own currency until 1910 so maybe this was accepted for trade? Australian coins are occasionally found in the US by detectorists.
Wow - an interesting find!
