Hi Curt,
The military button looks like a NSW Volunteer Rifles button.
Lot 4845
Interesting.
That’s close Karl , still not sure what it is but very pleased with it anyway and the condition is great .
Have a look at this link for some info . They have been used back to Roman times at least . The first worn one in the link is a military issued Enfield one .
Not sure how i posted this link in the wrong topic , was meant for Karls snake buckle find ?
You’ve done well, is there any details on the little silver love heart thingy? Or the bear with the really long arm?!?!?!
Gday Dave . The silver heart has been cut from something . There is some detail like that looks like tulips etc on the photo side . The obverse shows a faint fouled anchor . Have been informed that the bear/chimp would have had another enlongated arm hanging down and were used for hanging items in Victorian times .
Remember the kids toy: a barrel of monkeys: you could link them all together?
Good going though to still find artefacts
Interesting lettering on the cricket buckle. The old sixpence is another good find. I’m amazed at how much stuff they left behind in the burn. Maybe most of them were making money either by registering a good reef or working for leaseholders that were on the gold.
Nice day for it today
Great finds (again!) Cool buckle with some gilt remaining(?) and another old silver
A couple of buckles lately
This one is probably about horse racing . Had to do some restoration work and could not find all the bits but it is a shod horses hoof .
Getting a great collection of buckles there!
Lefroy keeps on giving!?
Good stuff
Thanks Drystone . Yep Lefroy has been good to me , but has taken a huge amount of hard hours . The cream of finds was skimmed off years ago by the old detecting clubs . A talk with one of our older members makes the place sound like a detecting nirvana back in the 1980 - 90’s .
Lefroy is still giving the odd find . It’s hard work though . I had some luck on Tuesday finding my first Half Sovereign dated 1853 . Kills a lot of pain when something like this surfaces .
The dollar coin was found early in the day , maybe it was an omen .
Very nice for sure. No wonder gold is so desirable?
Can you remember what it came-up on the nox? I’m guessing 14 to 16.
Solid 15 Karl . I thought it was just another piece of lead !
A half sovereign cures many aches and pains so I’ve heard! Another great find, some of the buttons and brooch are neat too
Pull tabs from drink cans so prevalent on recreation grounds register 14 to 15 on the nox. Maybe if I dig those signals instead of ignoring them, I might be lucky enough to score a half sov one day - or a full sov which I believe come in at around 18, same as ring pulls
